🏃♀️ MeteoSwiss’ Open Data Service: One Year On – A Review and Outlook
Since the launch of our Open Data Service on 22 May 2025 (Video), new datasets have been added step by step:
- Radar Products and Local Forecast Data in September 2025,
- Climate Scenarios CH2025 in November 2025,
- Spatial Climate Analyses in April 2026 and – most recently –
- Pollen Forecast Data and KENDA-CH1 Weather Analysis Data on 21 May 2026.
The use of open weather and climate data is growing steadily, and the feedback has been very encouraging.
Behind the scenes, MeteoSwiss has invested heavily in the scalability and stability of the platform to ensure the service remains reliable and performing well – even as the volume of data and the number of users grow.
Here’s what we’ll be working on in the coming months:
- New datasets: Atmospheric Measurement Data and additional Radar Products
- Integrated monitoring of data availability
- A feature API for local forecast data (in collaboration with swisstopo)
- An EDR API for the ICON-EPS-CH1 and -CH2 numerical weather models
